According to our man Noah Webster, in his 1828 Dictionary:
FRUGAL'ITY, n.
1. Prudent economy; good husbandry or housewifery; a sparing use or appropriation of money or commodities; a judicious use of any thing to be expended or employed; that careful management of money or goods which expends nothing unnecessarily, and applies what is used to a profitable purpose; that use in which nothing is wasted. It is not equivalent to parsimony, the latter being an excess of frugality, and a fault. Frugality is always a virtue. Nor is it synonymous with thrift, in its proper sense; for thrift is the effect of frugality.
Without frugality none can become rich, and with it few would be poor.
2. A prudent and sparing use or appropriation of any thing; as frugality.

Just a little something to think about, eh?
Frugal might be the middle name that me mum forgot to give me.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up in a single income family, I learned how to make do, make it or live contentedly without it. Wisdom walks closely with frugality.
Love the 1828 too...you need a hardcover one! PUT IT ON your wish list.

Question: are those deliciously yummy sounding brownies 'cakey' or 'fudgey'?
Ellie! Nice to hear from you again! :)
ReplyDeleteThe brownies are more cakey, as of right now, butI don't think that depends on the mix but the eggs:water:oil ratio. I am going to do some experiementing to see if I can get some more fudgeyness though!
literally.
ReplyDeleteah. i wish i was more frugal. i keep buying stuff and then my fiancé has like an app on his phone where he has budgets for everything... i guess i've got a lot to learn.
i was reading on this other blog that if you cut out little things like eating out and buying stuff you don't need, then you can make your dream vacations come true!
weird huh? maybe i'll have to try it. i would rather go to ireland than have a set of 25 different nail polishes.
anyways.
you and your hubby are the cutest.

Emily, I'm just trying to learn as I go here. For me, a big thing is if I can manage to go to the grocery store less I seem to be saving a lot of money. The more trips a month the more I wind up spending. We try to keep a handle on eating out too. and like you said, I would MUCH rather have that money to spend on a vacation (ps: ireland is GORGEOUS, btw. Worth the trip!!).
